Thanks for your comments folks, much appreciated.

I almost didn't take this shot - and it was something of a grab shot at that! - The fungi were growing on a dead log part way up a very slippy 30-40 degree muddy bank. I could only get two legs of the tripod on the ground, and it had just started raining. I was pleasantly surprised when I got it onto the computer and saw the result.

.... and the moral (morel?!) of the story for both us is - take more grab shots and be pleasantly surprised!!!! To be serious I think that after a number of years our minds become conditioned to taking shots in a certain way and we do it without realising we're doing it!
