Just a 10 minute walk from where I live there are 2 hills with a relatively large Badger population and it is widely thought that there have been badgers there for many hundreds of years. Back in the early 90s when a major motorway extension was being built through the area there were special "fences" and crossing points built to minimize the disruption for the badgers. It was still sad they built to road as there is a lot of noise and visual impact.
