Yesterday we had the bird for 3 and half mins and no light .... today a superabundance of reflected light off the water - brilliant (I've toned that down with great difficulty believe it or not!) and the bird (a male this time to yesterdays female) stayed just 10 seconds and was not seen again despite waiting for another 5 hours ..........

Super Pauline! And you got the pair!

Did you sort out the issues with Ian's settings?

Yes thanks Dave - it was mainly due to the nearly impossible light conditions - on both days - and he was out of practice with the 7D which is still new to him - he was underexposing (as we did with the 40D) but the 7D you have to be more accurate with! Thanks OY - I was close to asking where you had taken yours till this opportunity arose - tho the Pennington birds are not a done-deal - there are days when they don't appear - we've been lucky to see both birds on consecutive days ......

Thanks guys: I wasn't sure about this at first but not seeing it for a week I can now appreciate it better - I didn't like the garish light behind but didn't want to falsify the background - I think I can now live with it!!!
