Description: 6th April 2013 - This fascinating old ruin was damaged beyond repair in a terrible gale in 1847. Noteworthy graves in the churchyards include, 'King' David Hartley, a local coiner, hung in 1774 and in the new churchyard, is buried poet, Sylvia Plath, once the wife of Ted Hughes.

Description: 26th July 2012. The granite forming these cliffs is much younger than the granite of Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor (Carboniferous), being Tertiary in age.

Description: 5th April 2012, the pillar is said to have been erected at the behest of Lady Anne Clifford, to commemorate Sir Hugh de Morville, once Lord of the manor of Mallerstang. Sir Hugh was one of the knights who 'dealt with' Archbishop Thomas Beckett.

Description: 5th April 2012. Lunds Church is a now redundant chapel of ease, sadly in a state of decay. A few graves remain, but the churchyard is slowly being reclaimed by the moor. I find the place rather moving.

Description: Wycoller, as well as its ruinous hall, with Bronte associations, is well known for its old bridges. Two are shown here, whilst the oldest, often described as 'prehistoric', is further upstream.

Description: Wycoller is a bit of a 'honeypot'-type village in Lancs. However it very pretty and has several interesting old properties, bridges and a decent cafe. There is also a colony of Natterer's bats nearby. The mighty Boulsworth Hill rears up like a beast to the east of it.

Description: This hill top also goes by the peculiar name of Archy Styrigg. As for the name Gregory Chapel, I have been unable to find out how it got this name. There is a small ruinous shelter nearby, but it has no chapel-like features.

Description: Baugh Fell is a huge sprawling hill on the northern side of Garsdale, Yorkshire Dales. It has an unfortunate (and unjustified in my opinion) reputation of a boring hill, but has some interesting tarns on its summit plateau.
