Information
Description: 

This fungus, which is orange-yellow in colour, has flesh that is dryer than most waxcaps and occurs mainly in grassland but may also be found in woodland glades.

Distribution: 

Locally common.

Habitat: 

Close-cropped or mown acid grassland, moorland free from artificial fertilisers.

Cap: 

Dryer than most hygrocybes, the cap is yellow or yellow-orange and has a slight soapy or oily odour.

Flesh: 

Odour: said to be reminiscent of bed bugs?? If you squash a piece of gill material between your fingers the smell is easily detectable

Gills: 

Widely spaced, paler than the cap, and deeply notched

 

 

Spores: 

Spore print is white.

Stem: 

Similar in colour to the cap or a little paler, with no ring.
