Description: 

A medium sized Russula that has a variable cap colour, pale cream gills and a white stem, found growing solitary or in small troops on soil with broadleaf trees, usually Beech.

Distribution: 

Infrequent from Summer till Autumn.

Habitat: 

With broadleaf trees, usually Beech.

Cap: 

Initially flattened-convex then often slightly depressed, cap colour variable from dull green, yellow, with greyish-lilac, violaceous tints, smooth, striate margin on drying, cuticle peels halfway to the cap centre.

Flesh: 

Cap fleshf is white and bruises pale pink, stem flesh concolorous, soft and brittle, pale pink where damaged. Odour may be slightly fruiy or none, taste is hot but only when young.

Gills: 

Pale cream, thin, crowded and brittle and occasionally forked.

Stem: 

More or less equal, sometimes misshapen, white, sometimes tinged faintly vinaceous.
