Description
The Northern Bottlenose Whale has a distinctive bulbous head with the tube-like beak. They typically range in size from 6 m to 10 m long and weigh about 5-7 tonnes.
Newborn Northern Bottlenose Whales are usually a dark chocolatey colour with a pale underside. As they become older their backs usually retain the colour, but their sides become lighter. Both male and female adult whales have a slate grey or bluish black collar. Some of the larger mature males have pale heads.
A member of the beaked whale family, Ziphilidae.
