Description: 

A member of the Xylariaceae family this small, whitish flattened disc is found on horse dung attached to the substrate by a long, black cylindrical stalk .

Distribution: 

The New Forest and other similarly grazed areas

Habitat: 

Once quite abundant but becoming more rare since the decline in the use of natural horse power. Listed as endangered on the Red Data List.
