A perennial climber with tendrils that flowers from July - September. The leaves are broad and blunt with prominent veins. The blooms are variable, from white to red or pink colours and are followed by long brown seed pods. This is an excellent foodplant for wildlife such as caterpillars, bees and beetles.

Gypsywort is a perennial and a member of the mint family. It is an erect plant with sparsely branching stems that bear simple opposite leaves arranged in vertical ranks of pairs that are widely spaced on the stem. The base of the stem sends out thin branching runners. The flowers are small and white and form at the junction of the leaf and stem, froming doughnut shaped whorls around the stem.
