Description: 

A medium sized fungus that exudes copious amounts of milk, found growing in soil either solitary or in scattered groups under Beech.

Distribution: 

Infrequent.

Habitat: 

In deciduous woodland with Beech from Summer till Autumn.

Cap: 

Olive-brown to olive-green,, zoned, convex and downy when young, later flat or depressed with an irregular margin, smooth when dry, slimy when moist.

Flesh: 

Cap flesh is firm and brittle, whitish with a brown tinge. Stem flesh is whitish and stuffed.

Gills: 

Adnate or slightly decurrent, close, cream coloured, discolouring olivaceous or reddish-brown

Stem: 

Pale, ring absent, smooth, tapering downwards, concolorous with the cap.

Additional Notes: 

Inedible.
