The Jackdaw is our smallest crow and is roughly the same size as a Jay. Like all other members of the crow family Jackdaws are inquisitive and intelligent birds. Adult Jackdaws are all black apart from a grey nape, shoulders and ear coverts. The eyes are also grey, being almost white and the bill and legs are black. Juvenile birds have a less prominent grey nape etc., and their eyes are brown until their first Autumn.
The Jackdaw enjoys a varied diet and will happily scavenge on landfill sites, eat insects, seeds, fruit and scraps and may also prey on other animals such as roadkill.
