Length: 
Body length: 7.5-10cm
Description: 
Grey-brown fur, slightly paler underneath the body. Long, sparsely furred, scaly tail. Prominent ears and large eyes (but eyes not as large as those of the Wood Mouse). Usually has a typical 'mousy' smell.
Distribution: 
Mainly associated with humans, and widespread throughout Britain and Ireland. A few populations are found in fields well away from human habitation.
Habitat: 
Buildings of all kinds where there is food to be found. Also, occasionally, open fields.
Reproduction: 
Five to ten litters of up to eight young per year.
Predators: 
Birds of prey, especially owls. Stoats and weasels, foxes. Humans. Brown Rats occasionally prey on House Mice.
Footprint Description: 
Fore foot has 4 digital pads,with visible claws and 3 interdigital pads,all small and rounded in shape. Hind foot has 5 digital pads, with 4 small interdigital pads. 2 proximal pads on both fore and hind feet. Hand outline often present.
Footprint Size: 
Hind foot - 1.8x1.8cm, fore foot - 1x1.3cm. Stride approx 7cm.
Droppings Description: 
Droppings are rounded in cross section,approx 0.6cm long and 0.2cm wide.Similar in appearance to those of Wood Mice.Colour may vary depending on diet.Regular latrines are used.
