A pale buff coloured encrustation or bracket found in overlapping tiers in broadleaf woodland on stumps and dead wood, favouring Oak.
Common throughout the year, sporulating from late Summer till Autumn.
The fruitbody's upper surface is grey to ochraceous-brow with a paler margin, concentrically zoned and finely downy. The lower surface is reddish-brown, smooth, reflexed or resupinate.
Reddish-ochre and thin, tough and elastic when moist, hard and brittle when dry. Reddening where cut. Odour and taste not distinctive.
Inedible.
