Labiate

Belonging to the Labiate family. Often scented and two-lipped. E.g. Woundwort. 

Lanceolate

A narrow and spear-shaped leaf. Much longer than it is wide.

Latex

White  fluid within the stem of a plant, such as in the Euphorbia family. The colour and changes in colour of latex can be used for identification purposes.

Lax

Open and not dense.

Leaflet

Leaf-like part or lobe of leaf.

Lignify

To become woody.

Ligule

Flap at the base of a blade of grass where it joins the stem.

Linear

Describing a parallel and slender leaf.

Lip

Lower part of a flower with irregular petals, such as an Orchid.

Lobe

One of the divisions of a leaf or petal.

Lobed

Leaf with indentations in the margin not reaching the midline (if pinnately lobed) or midpoint (if palmately- lobed; e.g. Round-leaved Crowfoot).
