| Labiate |
Belonging to the Labiate family. Often scented and two-lipped. E.g. Woundwort. |

| Lanceolate |
A narrow and spear-shaped leaf. Much longer than it is wide. |
||
| Latex |
White fluid within the stem of a plant, such as in the Euphorbia family. The colour and changes in colour of latex can be used for identification purposes. |

| Lax |
Open and not dense. |
||
| Leaflet |
Leaf-like part or lobe of leaf. |
||
| Lignify |
To become woody. |
||
| Ligule |
Flap at the base of a blade of grass where it joins the stem. |
||
| Linear |
Describing a parallel and slender leaf. |
||
| Lip |
Lower part of a flower with irregular petals, such as an Orchid. |
||
| Lobe |
One of the divisions of a leaf or petal. |
||
| Lobed |
Leaf with indentations in the margin not reaching the midline (if pinnately lobed) or midpoint (if palmately- lobed; e.g. Round-leaved Crowfoot). |
