Geranium Bronze - Cacyreus marshalli.jpg
Scientific Name:
Cacyreus marshalli
Description:

Similar in appearance to the Brown Argus but lacks the orange spots. An accidental introduction that was observed for a period in the 1990s near Lewes in Sussex. the butterfly originates from South Africa but has now become established in areas in south-easter europe. Whilst it is unlikey that this species will become permanently established in the UK its appearance here does show that it could be possible that other accidentally introducedspecies could be found.

Habitat:

Most likely to be found around cultivated geraniums and in greenhouse where suitable footplants species are grown.

Status:

First recorded for the fist time in 1997. It is currently being monitored closely by DEFRA, and any occurrences should be reported to the Plant Health Service.
