Jessops advice please

Again I have won a competition at work which will see me receive a grands worth of vouchers which can be used in a number of retail outlets.

Jessops is one such outlet.

I would not necessarily normally shop at Jessops, so I was wondering - what are Jessops competative on.

Say I could get a £1,000 lens. But why bother when the same lens of would cost £700 from somewhere else?

So what are they competative at?

Re: Jessops advice please

contrary to popular belief they can be competitive on camera bodies, particularly when they have an offer on. I'm talking DSLRs here, they're not so competitive with other types of camera. I think they also will match internet prices.

You've probably got enough camera bodies though

Matt

Re: Jessops advice please

if you got the vouchers for nothing, then it doesn't matter if jessops is over priced, what even you buy still didn't cost you anything!

buy some thing and then see if they give you a cash refund

For nothing? Employee of the year so far. mmm

I see your point but I would think it a waste to spend them on something just for the sake of it, regardless of whether it be overpriced

They do price match on telescopes if you are still in the market for one?
get an adaptor with it and voila.....something like an 800mm lens for the camera

I think I'd sit on them a bit and wait to see if someone brings out the next zillion pixel, super dooper camera that makes tea as well. Don't let the vouchers burn a hole in your pocket.

But then I suppose you were always first down the sweet shop on pocket money day, when you were a kid!

They'll sell you a surgical mask with "halfwit" printed on it if you wanted one!

Re: Jessops advice please

what about a high end video camera like the canon xm2 ?

alternatively you could sell the vouchers on ebay - you probably wouldnt get total face value but even 90p in the pound would get you plenty of drinking money

Re: Jessops advice please

Hmm..

If you buy Practical Photography magazine (April) there is a form in it that promises to "match" any price in the magazine.

If you used your voucher to get a 70-300 f/2.8 VR for example you would save £380.

They may have small print that excludes vouchers from this deal.

I was unable to get them to "match" or even approach the low internet prices when I tried gentle haggling, but I did get the manager of the Edinburgh shop to browse warehouseexpress and cameras2u which was slightly satisfying to watch. I told him that I liked his shop and his helpful staff but I couldn't contribute £100's more for the pleasure

Boddie, I don't want to dampen your spending enthusiasm mate but do bear in mind that as your 'prize' appears to be employment related there may well be a tax issue here

Its a competition based prize, based on revenue, so there are no tax implications

Re: Jessops advice please

I wonder about this tax every Christmas when the Company gives us a box of shortbread.
Should I send the Upper Tray to Gordon and Tony?

Or maybe we should just eat 60% of each piece and let them collect the end bits in April......
