| | | Photographing Foxes Hi
I'd like to try my hand at photographing some foxes this spring. I am going to look for some likely areas on the Ashdown Forest (Sussex) over the next few weeks.
When do the vixens fall pregnant? I am assuming that during this period (and with young) they are going to be much more cautious and I'd like to try to avoid stressing them out as well.
Thanks

Matt | Hi Matt,
I've always been led to believe that vixens occupy breeding dens between February and June as a rough guide. |

I'd guessed at cubbing around May but no idea at the gestation time (nor if May was accurate).
Time to get out on the Forest and look for some potential sites then! |

| | | Re: Photographing Foxes btw if you want to practice your Fox technique on some tame semi captive subjects check out the british wildlife centre at lingfield just over the surrey border - its about 7 quid to get in at the weekend with general visitors - very good photo ops through the wire
alternatively you can get into enclosure access to the foxes (plus red squirells, Otters and Wildcats) for £40 per day during the week British Wildlife Centre
this Fox cub was taken there four years back (btw the image noise is down to a not too clever scan - this was in my pre digital days)

| | | Re: Photographing Foxes The breeding period is just about over. The cubs are generally born early March and will emerge from earths in early to mid-April. This is one of mine from the gallery, taken at the end of last April.
Good luck. Beautiful animals to photograph. |
