but I got a Sparrowhawk close with a kill at last.

Good photo, shows the typical killing behaviour too with the gallons deeply embedded into the blue tit, army the base of the skull.

Dogghound, or any one else that could help have you ever seen this before? I know its a blurry rubbish photo, but it moved it pretty fast. Ive never seen a Sparrowhawk with a live bird in its beak with out a foot hold. She just turned it quickly round.

Yes the bird is manipulating it and moving it into a better position to kill/pluck. This is often done with smaller birds, larger birds are more of a struggle and as a result harder to kill.
