| | | Camera Traps Does anyone know where I could buy a motion sensitive wildlife camera trap instore, i'd love one of these for Christmas, after about a year or so of following otters and foxes etc. i've just been relying on chance encounters, I know they are there but I am hopeless when tracking them.
My intention is to find their route or 'runs' that they use, by setting up a camera trap at different positions thus mapping their route, if I can do this I will be so much more advantaged and will know the best spots and best times to get in position and wait.
I live in Northern Ireland and havent had much success when looking for camera traps, i've tried many JESSOPS but none seem to have any, the only one I havent tried yet is the one in Belfast (which is the biggest), if they dont have any then I will probably have to resort to the internet, if that is the case does anyone know anywhere i could get one cheap?
Thanks |

| | | Re: Camera Traps Just do a google search for a Photo trigger. The one I found was £129.99. No doubt there's others. That one can be fired by either light or sound. Not sure if I'd be happy leaving it and my camera and flash outside whilst I wasn't there though! |

Jessops have them on their website, so you should be able to get your local store to order one for you - Bushnell Trophy - Jessops

| | | Re: Camera Traps If you're after a Trail Cam - i.e. detector and camera, then the Bushnel is probably the best. They're OK for monitoring, but you're not going to get top quality images. If you take this route, then you can review them here ......... Trail Camera Reviews
Geoff seems to think you're after a trigger for your own camera, in which case, they're hard to come by. If you're handy with electronics, then you may find an answer here ................... PIR Sensor Circuits - Electronics
The PIR sensor is £10.99 and the relay board is the same. A conventional PIR detector tends to be for turning on security lights etc and it's relay will ouput mains voltage - OUCH!! The Reuk runs off a 12volt supply and it's relay is devoid of power - i.e it just closes a circuit ( or activates the camera shutter ).
I've made one and use it with a Canon 20D to monitor Foxes ( via a studio flash ).
Geoff warns of the security risk of leaving your camera out, but there's another risk; The most it's been left on it's own is the past 3 weeks, ( in a lean to, but not fully weatherproof ) and it packed up. A 4 hour stint in the warmth of the house has put it back to normal.
So, are you after a Trail Cam, or a Camera Trigger?

| | | Re: Camera Traps I use the Bushnell Trophy cams and a cheaper 'Tasco' one. You can see the kind of results I get at Home - WildlifeKate and then check out the Bushnell tab at the top. I have tied in with a few companies to offer these on my shop, that is also on this site. I am happy to help out if you buy one with advice on setting up and getting the most out of them. |

| | | Re: Camera Traps I bought my Bushnell XLT from Outdoor GB but have recently started buying them from Trailcampro an American site as it is hugely cheaper even with the postage and service is great. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
