| | | Re: Cammo Jacket Some of these shops have massive front windows Dave......they can see you coming from a mile away!
I do like the German cammo, but only found them to fit in when in autumn heather in Scotland.
I did learn years ago that fish don't see in colour at all, only shades of black and grey, but still far more shades than we can cope with.
You could walk into a field and sit as still as a rock, wearing the advantage cammo for instance, and not be seen by anything, man or beast, but get up and walk into the field next door and you may as well be wearing the Arsenal strip!
I'll stick with British DPM.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

| | | Re: Cammo Jacket Thank you again for all the tips and advice, I agree alot with what John has said, some cammo patterns as I allready suggested work better than others. I have found the lighter Real tree patterns are not as good as the darker Mossy Oak pattern I have , at least in my area, which means it`s either a better pattern or a lucky jacket I found a lot of the Army DPM stuff a little on the heavy and noisy side if you wanted it warm and water proof, most if it is made from Gortex is it not ? I also like to be in a position that people do not spot me easily either, they only come and investigate what your looking at So cammo against human eyesight is an added bonus I feel It looks likely there is not one perfect jacket, for all seasons, I had a look at the jacket from stealth gear, it looks good, and is not cammo, but in green. I need to do something soon Christmas is rappidly approaching
Cheers all Mark. |

| | | Re: Cammo Jacket Please don't spend a lot of money on one they are not worth it. For the past 30 years I've been using the one that was issued to me while serving as a Royal Marine Commando - you name it its been there even yomped across Falkland Islands in it.
I still use it today for all my wildlife photography - Deer, Badger, Fox, Otter etc without any problems. Its not the jackets, its the art of camouflage that counts -- breaking outlines, face highlights, backs of hands.
Go to any Surplus Store and you can pick one up for a few pound together with a tin of camouflage face paint.
Forget all the write ups you see from specialist stores about the warm lining in them and how they are resistant to wind. -- Shop Talk.
Just put on an extra pullover on under your surplus jackets, that's all we did and we survived.

| | | Re: Cammo Jacket I normally buy whatever's cheapest from TK Maxx as long as it's green, olive or some other neutral colour.I did once buy some camo pattern waterproofs from a local Army Surplus but they weren't breathable and the inner lining started to crumble away very quickly. At £15 delivered, and with an endorsement from GTH, I figure the German army surplus one is worth a try.

| | | Re: Cammo Jacket Hi Mark,
I have a feeling you may have heard of jack pyke, but i thought i would mention them any way just in case,
they do some decent jackets the english oak camo can be quite effective in autumn and winter,
the material is pretty quiet and warm (i've tested in -7% last winter)
as for breathability i cant help here as i was not doing much sweating at -7%
but for the price they are reasanoble,
Johnny kingdom swears by it
Regards Murray

| | | Re: Cammo Jacket Thanks Murray , if you was laying on the ground there you would be barely visible ! Different patterns for different seasons is something to consider.
Cheers Mark. |

| | | Re: Cammo Jacket I have Jack Pike trousers which are very heavy, polyeurethane lined so waterproof, very warm in winter and good for lying on the floor tho cold does strike thro eventually - but very good in woodland and very cold weather and grand for sitting in hides by the hour too! I have a Prologic 'big' jacket and hood with combined fleece and a very favourite Prologic lightweight smock which is waterproof and has a hood - I use this jacket all the time. It doesn't worry me that the pattern is HD max and quite light in colour - I don't blend into a wood but it does break up my shape wherever I am and I can wrap a more woodland-coloured bag hide around me or drape scrim if needed. I can only afford a couple of jackets and some of the woodland one;'s are very expensive - so its make a choice for me! In summer I have dark green/olive cargo pants, some camo tees, or just green tees, so long as everything is green or brown or beige and or a mix of I don;'t think it matters much. The birds and animals know you are there by sight or scent - its stopping people spotting you that matters sometimes
I can believe the salopettes would be fantastically warm - stop those nasty draughts round the kidneys that make you shivver and want to pee all the time! Ok for men but no use for me at the rate I need to piddle in cold weather - and yes going slightly off topic - I;ve got a 'She-wee' contraption which I haven't mastered properly - and nothing is colder than wet pants - too much info lets get back to camo!! Our local fishing shop has an offer on big jacket and salopettes for £99 at the min which is a great deal!

| | | Re: Cammo Jacket I have the jack pyke english oak jacket and trousers (both summer lightweight trousers and heavier winter) and i cant find a fault with them.Has got me very close encounters with deer by accident a few times ,i never saw them and they never saw me .But the main thing is it is quiet and very comfortable.Probably not the very warmest but a nice balance. And also they do a large range in the pattern eg balaclava , gloves, midge net and more. However I do not know how good they stand up for breathability as most of my photography involves standing still and hiding. |
