| | | Donna nook equipment Hi WAB
I was thinking of making a trip to Donna nook soon. It Is an 3.5 hour tri for me. Unfortantly I have to drag my parents up with me because in only 14. I'm just a bit worried just in case we don't see anything (I dint think they would be very happy) . I was wandering if my camera equipment would be ok. I have a canon 20d and a canon 300mm f4 L non is. Also, a crappy tripod :P. I heard that you have to stop behind a wooden fence or something. Can you go up to the shire lie. Obviously if the seals get irritated you would back off. If you could help that would be great.
Thanks Tom |

If you send a PM to UKwildlifeo or Pressld2 they will be able to give you all the advice you need both photographically and tips for whilst you are on site.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Donna nook equipment I agree with Adam though I would add (just in case they dont mention it) dress up warm with a wind proof jacket and trousers, gloves and a warm hat. It can be very cold and windy at this time of year. Good luck, look forward to seeing the results.

| | | Re: Donna nook equipment You're a bit early still - I probably won't be visiting until the second week in November to see it at its best.
Worth reading this thread: Photographers endangering Donna Nook Seals
I would stay behind the fence and I find a 300mm lens absolutely fine, but a wider lens to take in the spectacle of so many seals in one place is also useful. |

| | | Re: Donna nook equipment I don't know Donna Nook at all but suggest that state of tide might make a difference to the seals' activities?
Our smallish South Walney flock haul out at low water, spreading far and wide over the high water period.
Might be useful to check a tide table, Tom.
Good luck. |

| | | Re: Donna nook equipment There is a sight that tells you the number of seals and seal pups which is very useful for numbers. type in donna nook seals should help find this sight. To early yet you wont see much, also there are B&b near by to make a couple days of it.
