It is indeed a very sharp lens. And loses little of that sharpness with the Nikon 1.7TC. Giving me a very mobile 500mm f6.7 lens. Which, with the excellent high ISO capability of the Nikon D700 means I don't have to think too hard about a Nikon 500mm f4 lens. Yet!
And I am enjoying those days when I photo captive birds close up. I will try to keep my "Close Up" web pages with those captive bird shots separate from my other wild bird pages as I do know that some do not approve of taking such shots. But to get such shots there is no alternative for me. I do not propose to start causing disturbance and possibly worse to those wonderful Owls by attempting to get very close in the wild and use flash etc.
"It could cheapen your web site" was one comment, (not a WAB'er). Not said nastily, and I can understand it. It took me nearly 40 years to start serious photography of preserved steam locos working on the UK main lines after real steam operations ended here in 1968. I just felt they were cheap alternatives to the real thing.
The Owls Close up pages are being slowly developed, by the way. The Barn Owl Close Up page, (still a long way to go with it), is maybe starting to give a feel for what I am trying to achieve.
Accessed via the individual bird pages on my Owl pages Index.
