how do you take a decfent hedgehog pic without red eye equipment using tripod nikon d50 with 200mm lens

can you anybody please help

Get your flash off the camera. If you're using the camera's pop-up flash then red eye (or with hedgehogs more likely blue eye) is very hard to avoid. You need a separate flash gun either on a bracket or hand held away from the camera. That's what I did for this shot...



The mistake I made here was in holding the flash to the left of the camera which produced the shadow in front of the hog's face. I should have held it to the right of the camera so that the shadow was behind the animal.

Of course, I'm right-handed so I'm always going to be holding the flash in my left hand and firing the shutter with my right. Therefore it's the hedgehog's fault for walking the wrong way!

yes i will take it in to consideration i did get red eye on my shots but used photoshop elements red eye memoval tool to remove i also then used the brush tool to paint back in the eye
it worked a little but didnt look very realistic to be honest
