| | | Bizarre Countryfile finalists Was it just me or did anyone else find some of the finalists totally baffling?
Blue tit looking out of a nest box as best bird shot? really? It was ok but has been done so many times. Earlier in the programme they showed an outstanding Kingfisher shot and yet the blue tit got chosen?
What about the ladybird for the insects? Again they showed a stunning damselfly covered in dew which magnified the lenses in the eye earlier in the show and yet a standard ladybird shot got through?
The mind boggles.
Congrats to all the finalists though including the ones mentioned above, just goes to show you never know how the judging will go.
I really like the flower meadow and the Stoat shot is just stunning!

| | | Re: Bizarre Countryfile finalists Toby, Ive just logged on to put much the same thread on. I am disgusted on the Blue Tit being the winner. How can this be chosen, how difficult is it to get a shot like this? Its a bread and butter shot and it is an insult to all those photographers who spent a lot of time and entered a lot better photos than this. The Kingfisher you mentioned was from a guy I know through Flikr named Malc. His photos are incredible and the time he puts in and the skill this man has is amazing. If any one is interested here is some of his work. Flickr: malckingfisher's Photostream
Im not saying he should have won, Im just using him as an example to show that this Blue Tit winning is a joke. This competition means a lot to some people and a prestigious competition like this should have judges that know what they are talking about. Mr Packham is IMO a worthy judge, but John Craven and Janet Street Porter havent got a clue. Im with you on the Weasel, I hope this wins. Being a photographer, I greatly admire this shot. Everything about it is just brilliant to me. One more thing Im not to sure about is the Fox in the snow. I do think its a cracking photo, but Id put money on that this isnt a wild animal, I maybe wrong on this, but Id be very surprised if I was. Rant over

| | | Re: Bizarre Countryfile finalists I just find countryfile bizarre full stop. I have pretty much stopped watching it. The number of errors and inaccurate data portrayed in the program is criminal. The all time classic was a program which had a section on water vole conservation, throughout the entire bit they kept showing a clip of a brown rat walking through some grass. I think they also showed a mink as an otter once too, they have got numerous bird IDs wrong and half the the information they give out is totally outdated. As for the photo's I have to agree it hardly an achievement taking a photo of a blue tit in your back garden, when must visit a nest box every few minutes during the brooding period. In comparison to sitting by a river for hours trying to get a shot of a far more elusive bird. |

Lots of people scan and lurk on all fora. For lots of people to click and go and look at another web-site uses up yet more time.
And we haven't been given a link to click to that will use yet more time.
From what has been said it does sound wrong - Oh, well I will have to go and google it after this message
+++++++++++++++
Just been off and had a look on www. Only 2010 photos on line at present so far as I can see.

| | | Re: Bizarre Countryfile finalists I did the same thing - once I read this I checked and couldn't find anything. I missed the actual program. They use the 'winners' for the 'Children in Need'calendar don't they so may be they choose which picrures they think will sell the calendar...
