Call me Mr. Thickie if you must, but...

...why am I unable to add attachments to any replies that I might make in the Forums?

Re: Call me Mr. Thickie if you must, but...

When you say attachments, what exactly do you mean?
Images can be linked by copying the bbcode and pasting it into the thread, and post quotes are done by clicking on quote.
Do you mean external linkled attachments? If so, they aren't allowed. All linkages must be pre-loaded, into the forum gallery or the unidentified gallery.

Re: Call me Mr. Thickie if you must, but...

Image attachments. I was trying to reply to a post by Chris Johnstone, in which he asked what may be done to improve his image of a Swan. You yourself, glsammy, posted an offering. When I tried to re-post the image by clicking on the 'insert image' icon, a drop-down box required a URL.
Is it just me, or am I missing something? And what is the bbcode?

Oh, it's ok, Mr. Thickie! I've been trying to do the same. Duh! It's not just you!

Ah, right. Firstly you have to load the image you want into the Forum gallery. This is not moderated, so you can use it straight away. When you look at the image, look beneath it, you will see a box title bbcode. Copy all this code. Go to the thread where you want to put the image and when your ready, paste the code you copied. The image will then appear.

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, nightshade. It could open the flood-gates.

I down load mine onto photobucket then post them on the threads. It may be a long winded affair but it works for me.

Not always, it will often fail plus it isn't the preferred method.
We much prefer users to load the images into the Forum Gallery, that way we don't get broken links.

Re: Call me Mr. Thickie if you must, but...

glsammy,
The method used by this web site to add other forum members images to illustrate a technique is not without its problems. As I did the last time, I added an image to the forum gallery so I could copy and paste the bbcode into a reply. I then went to the page that I had added the picture to, to get the required code, and was surprised to see that an image (not owned by me) that I'd used to reply to Chris Johnstone has now been added to the 'View all of HowlinWolf's images' page.
I have posted the name of the owner of the Swan image in the comments box so as not to give the impression that I have added someone else's image to my collection and claimed it as my work. Have there been any objections to this happening, or am I the first to see the potential ramifications of such a device?

Regards,
HW

I've done the same thing a few times - normally with other members images that ive downloaded to work on then loaded back up - and i cant image anyone getting too bent out of shape so long as you had their permission to post the pic in the first place - of course if you didnt have their permission then it would probably be better not to post it anyway.

i also normally title the image "such an such" by "so and so" to avoid any abiguity

I would only ever do this to an image that was put up for critique, and also clearly mark that image as not my own when I upload it back after alteration.
I believe the only way an image can be regarded as yours is if you've uploaded it, not by simply copying the bbcode into a post, which would be the method I would use If I was using another members image as an example.
I'm certain no one here would ever try to claim someone elses image as their own, it would be a pointless and worthless exercise, and could soon be shown to be false.
Obviously anyone can copy any image from the site to their own computer if they wish, and if anyone has done that with mine, good luck to them! The resolution loaded here is good for one thing only, and that's to show a reasonable image on a computer screen. If anyone ever tried to print the images at any size they'd soon realise it's a waste of time. 800x600 pixels at 72 ppi doesn't show too well when printed.

I hope that clears any doubts.
