One the BWPA didn't like

Hi all,

thought I'd post up an image that I submitted this year that didn't make the cut and see what other people thought of it. It was entered into the Animal Behaviour category and I was sure it would at least get shortlisted but clearly i'm biased

I thought a few comments may help me to focus on getting it right next time and perhaps get into their line of thinking.

If anyone else has some they would like to share then maybe this could be the please for feedback?

Well I think its a very unusual shot Toby, I've no idea what BWTA would be looking for in that category, did they have a comical category?

Astonishing photograph, Toby! I have no idea why it wouldn't have been acceptable to the judges.

Very many years ago I went into a colour slide competition - and won it! To this day I have no idea why I won. In my opinion, several runners up had far better slides than mine. Because of the seemingly contrariness of photo judging, I've never entered another competition since!

Very unusual shot - I had to look twice! Perhaps there ought to be a category for "Odds on" shots - the fact you got there to see it happening?

It's a lovely picture, but I'm not sure it fits the category. What aspect of "Animal Behaviour" do you think it illustrates?

I see the category in full for "Animal Behaviour" is

"Entries can show unusual, interesting, amusing or remarkable behaviour being exhibited, or depict something familiar in a new light. Show the judges something they don’t know or haven’t seen before, or invite them to look again at what they thought they already knew"

Personally, I'd be happy that the picture fits that definition, but either the judges didn't or had lots more photographs that they preferred.

I like it and think it fits the category.

Perhaps by keeping the whole reflection the behaviour shown gets a bit lost in the overall composition.

But I have no idea what judges look for!
