| | | Re: Dragonfly attracter Perches can work for some species (mainly darters, chasers, and skimmers in the UK), but generally you just have to learn their behaviour and be patient (and/or be lucky!).
Darters, chasers and skimmers tend to have favoured perches near the edge of their chosen pond or stream - or in forest clearings and along hedgerows etc if they are feeding away from water, and if you move in close to these when they fly and then wait motionless nearby they will often return to the same perch (and if you provide a suitable twig they often choose to use that).
Hawker types are more difficult, you generally just have to keep watching them, and hope that they are in a suitable position when they eventually do land. |
