| | | Trip to Bempton Cliffs 7/7/11 Thought i'd post this on here as i'd like to start using this forum more often as it's been really helpful in identifying things for me so far. So why not post a couple of photos from time to time so i'm not just asking for help.
Went to Bempton Cliffs for the first time the other day and we were expecting rain, but luckily for us it stayed sunny, with a bit of wind, through out the day. Saw many new birds for my 2011 list including Puffin and Tree Sparrow and a Peregrine i was pleased to have spotted myself and just seeing so many birds flying around the cliffs was a great site.
On the way back we stopped at Wykeham forest hoping for Honey Buzzards but unlike the first time i went there, there was no sign of them. But i did see Coal Tits, Siskin and a Treecreeper, 3 new ones for me.
And then again on the way back we stopped at Fenn Bog, but it was a bit dull by that time but i got to see my first Green Woodpecker, Redpoll and what we believe was a Dark Green Fritillary.
Anyway on with the Photos:
Tree Sparrow
Gannet, probably my favourite photo of the lot
Juv Gannet
Guillemots and Chick
Fulmar, really pleased with this as they were hard to catch and they are really great birds.
View
Bad photo of the Peregrine.
Thanks for reading/viewing.

| | | Re: Trip to Bempton Cliffs 7/7/11 Thanks for the replies, it was a good day out, only thing missing was some Puffin pictures.
Unfortunately i think most of the birds will be leaving soon, so i won't be going back until next year at the earliest. |

| | | Re: Trip to Bempton Cliffs 7/7/11 How lovely to have seen so many birds that were new to you. I was at The Farne Islands for the first time last month and came back like you - full of enthusiasm. The Puffins there were the stars so if you can get anywhere to see them it is so worth the trip. You seem to have also seen alot of great woodland birds. I've not managed to see a Treecreeper yet. Butterflies have been fantastic so far this year. Hope you get to have many more exciting trips. Your interest grows so quickly once you start seeing such great new sights! |

| | | Re: Trip to Bempton Cliffs 7/7/11 galanthophile- I used to go birdwatching quite often when i was a kid, helped by my dad who had already been watching birds for 25+ years, so i got to go to quite a few places including the Farne Islands, which i'd like to go back to again sometime, and it's not too far away (2-3 hours).
Then school came around and college and my interests changed and i wasn't into birds as much, but it hadn't totally gone.
Then only in the last few months or so my interest in birds and wildlife was coming back and started going out more. I think taking a camera with me has also helped. I've not done too bad in those few months though, my list is up to 125 and i've seen some rare birds for the area i live in, most notable are Stone Curlew and the White Throated Robin (my list is in the Birds List 2011 thread).
I'd never seen a Treecreeper before either and only got a quick view, but i'd love to see one again that stays around a bit longer. Hopefully more exciting trips are ahead, but with the bad weather lately it's been harder to get out, but once you go out again you want to go out every day.
