Bought a new tripod today so went out to feed the birds this afternoon and focused on this little fella.
Always struggled with these, possibly due to the blacks and white throwing the exposure out on my camera.
Opted for my usual manual exposure and got this.

Love it! Great photo. We have a Coal Tit and the problem, as you say is when you have white feathers, you tend to blow the highlights.
You've caught that great - blacks not too black and you still have the white feather detail.
I've just turned green !

Hi Dan,
Good capture. Are you sure your not using a taxidermist's services  LOL (Only Kidding). I am really like the way you compose. The colours seem to jump out of the screen so I don't think you bleached them. Looking forward to seeing more.

Actually having thought about it, has the tripod enabled a better shot as you weren't having to worry about keeping the camera still?
