| | | Mom feeding baby(great spotted woodpecker) ive not long got back from my favourite nature reserve and managed to get a pick of mom feeding her young, she was flying over with him landing on the tree and little fellow would stay in the tree while mom swooped down grabbed some food and went back to him(crackin behaviour to watch)
i had a super time over there as i saw my first hobby not a brilliant shot but it will do for reference.

| | | Re: Mom feeding baby(great spotted woodpecker) Thanks Pam,
It could well be the same place (they say it is a small world after all)
poor mrs woody has been a busy girl this week,as far as i know she has two young,it was great to get a look into there world for a while.
i could not believe how close the hobby was, it was still quite far but close for them.
Thanks again Pam very much appreciated
Regards Murray

| | | Re: Mom feeding baby(great spotted woodpecker) Hi Murray, we weren`t on a reserve but walking up the River Severn from Arley to Highley, a lovely part of the world. There were lots of Martins around & I think that maybe what the Hobby was after. We watched him stoop after something, amazing to watch
Welcome to WAB by the way

| | | Re: Mom feeding baby(great spotted woodpecker) Hi Pam,
I've heard its very beautiful there,
someone was telling me that they had seen a hobby trying to catch swifts, two very fast on the wing birds,i'd love to have seen that, hats off to you for witnessing him doing what he does best, i bet it was hard to keep track of him,i was having trouble keeping up with the one i spotted and he was just circling in the sky.
Thanks again Pam and thank you for the warm welcome much appreciated

Was gone before I could get the camera on it, or before I could see if it was male or female. It could even have been a youngster, having now seen your shot of one!
Anyway, thanks for sharing. And for making me green! LOL!

| | | Re: Mom feeding baby(great spotted woodpecker) Thanks Bryan,
I had the same experience over there with a Jay,he landed about 8 feet away from me staring right at me as soon as i started to bring the camera up he was gone,
an article i read once said that if a species that youve been after for ages suddenly lands in front of you, to say in your head"oh no not this old bird again" it sounds daft but it is as if they can sense your adrennilin and excitment, the only trouble with this is its easier said than done,
and as for green with envy touche,as ive been after a pic of a goldfinch for some time now ive never been able to get one, i see them sitting in trees in the distance, in nieghbours gardens ive seen one land on the nyger seed in our garden once but as soon as i fall up the stairs quickly trying to grab my camera hes gone,
Thanks again Bryan very much appreciated
