| | | Re: Tripod Help Well basically Mark, when you need a longer shutter speed than 1/lens focal length.
However a tripod is good because it slows you down and you have more time to think and answer the question "Why am I taking this picture".
Good luck
Chris

Mark | Hi Mark
I don't think that there is such a thing as a stupid question and certainly the people on this site wouldn't treat any question as such.
I am still trying to decide WHICH tripod or monopod to buy. As for uses, some people seem to use them for treking and navigation aids as much as for taking macro and long lens shots. I have actually used an old one to hang a pot over a camp fire but that is probably not the best use!
I am currently considering a benbo tripod and possible a manfrotto monopod. I can't decide which. What tripod do you use and what were your reasons for buying the one that you have currently.

| | | Re: Tripod Help I bought a tripod a few months ago and now use it every chance I can. I was very surprised with the improvement in my photographs. As alraedy mentioned you can use longer shutter speeds but I have shakkey hands and the tripods compensates for that. Also I fiind using it slows down the picture taking process and so my composition has improved

I currently use a Manfrotto carbon fibre tripod which cost a lot but I carry with me, all the others I've ended up leaving at home.

| | | Re: Tripod Help With you on that Rob,currently use a Manfrotto mono with tripod feet in the base sometimes.
Light but very strong.can use as a walking pole on rough ground.

| | | Re: Tripod Help A lot of people don't realise how much a tripod improves their photography. People who think they have steady hands only realise they don't when they see the improvement in the quality of their photos when they use a tripod. Even the very slightest of blurring affects the sharpness of a photo.

If you are into birds and might get a telescope, then my
advice would be to buy something very solid - I've
recently shelled out for a Manfrotto with carbon fibre legs.
FANTASTIC
Turned my slightly dissapointing newish telescope into nearly
as good as my mate's Leica - the old tripod was just
not steady enough at high zoom and I had not realized.
Having a really smooth pan and tilt is also a revelation. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
