| | | Re: Tripod Help Hi,
I use a tripod for probably 95% of my photography.
I have a gitzo 1325 carbon fibre tripod for photographing birds etc with my 500mm.
I also have a benbo trekker for insects flowers fungi etc.
One suggestion I've got for anyone thinking of buying a trekker is steer clear of the Mk2 version. It's got a horrible plastic right angle adjustment which I found to be very unsteady and wobbly.I got a Mk2 when my Mk1's locking mechanism packed in.I ended up butchering the Mk2 to repair my Mk1.
Go for a secondhand Mk1 trekker , around £50 and a lot more solid.

| | | Re: Tripod Help Davewalker has a brilliant idea for a device involving an old car aerial, a clothes peg and a fish tying clamp, that attaches to a tripod to help stabilise plants for close up flower shots. I wouldn't like to steal his thunder but he let me in on the secret on a posting to one of my shots in the Photo Critique Gallery - it's one of the later posting so you might have to scroll through a few.. http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga...indleFruit.jpg
Dave - if you had a photo of it attached to a tripod in action it would be good to see and I hope you don't mind me drawing other peoples attention to it.

Neil | It is a wimberley gizmo and is perfect for macro work Most of my photography with either my 600mm or the macro lens is done on a gitzo 1348 carbon fibre tripod. With the 600mm I use a manfrotto 393 head to support the lens. For the macro lens, either the 150mm sigma or the Canon MP-E65, I use a manfrotto geared pan and tilt head with a micro positioning stage on top of it. Having said that the 055ProB tripod is still a great tripod for most uses
I previously used a manfrotto 055ProB tripod but the legs were showing signs of strain under the weight of the big prime lens. The Gitzo 1348 carbon fibre tripod isn't any lighter than the 055ProB but it is significantly stronger and more stable. |
