Hey guys,
Today I have had fantastic success photographing Brown Hares so I thought I would offer a few of my observations that may help you lot to get close to these wonderful mammals.
1) Into the wind - when stalking these mammals walking into the wind gives a far higher chance of getting close because they cannot smell you!
2) keeping low - when I had located the hares from a distance I then crouched down and walked slowly, as I got closer I then dropped to my hands and knees before finally laying down. When I was laying down the Hares seemed far less wary of me allowing me to slowly (inch by inch) get closer to them.
3) dont rush to take pictures! take one....watch the Hare...if it is undisturbed take another.. you don't want to scare your subject off because your camera is imitating a machine gun!
I hope these pointers help if any of you do decide to go after Hares this spring.
