| | | Wildife photographer of they year 2011 - anyone enter? So did anyone enter this year?
I decided against it, as other than not having anything I think is good enough, I haven't been abroad anywhere with any 'sexy' animals (e.g. tigers, wolves, sea turtles or crocodiles) to photograph which seems to be a requirement these days. Looking through my portfolio (free with BBC wildlife Mag last year) there is only 1 entry taken in the UK and that is a tree reflection in a lake, not an animal. |

| | | Re: Wildife photographer of they year 2011 - anyone enter? It s the toughest competition and the standard is very high. Several images in 2010 were taken in the UK. From memory;
- Fox in urban category
- Fulmar in creative visions
- Puffin and Gulls in Bird behaviour
I think the only section the UK is difficult to enter is animal portraits as we don't have many apex predators, but quality photographers have been able to do well in this category e.g. Danny Green.
British photographers do well when you consider how hard our wildlife is to photograph and how small our island is. They key is imagination and something different which can be achieved anywhere. |

The level of competition is obviously world class so I guess it's something I'll have to work up to
Good luck to anyone that does enter.

I think last year there were only 5 British photographers in the adult categories which did strike me as surprisingly low.
I've entered a couple this year.

Matt | Of course, forgot about your shot Matt. Shows how good it was that it managed to do so well when pitted against tigers and rhinos.
Im guessing the free portfolio didnt have all the shots in that made it.
Best of luck this year |

That said they get so many entries its probably to put all but the most serious of entries.
I'd love to work out the average price of camera kit of the winners. Would be interesting to see. |
