Jeff | Hi Jeff.
In my opinion a watermark is a waste of time.if you have PS cs you can use the healing tool to remove it.
That or cover the photo with a watermark would spoil an image for the viewer.
One way round it although not fool proof would be for the site to have right click disable that is what we have on our own website.
That or members only can view large images. |

I'm pretty certain that non-members cannot view any images larger than the thumbnails. Indeed I have just tried, without being logged in, and it would not let me view images in the Gallery other than the thumbnails.
Hope this answers your concerns.

. | I actually agree with you about that - to a point. a determined thief can remove watermarks - or indeed take pictures from sites which have the right click disabled. However professional thieves generally want the image for illegal reproduction as posters etc and a 600x800 72dpi file under 250kb in size isn't going to do them much good for that application anyway
What the watermark is good for is deterring the casual "thief" who might lift images for use on their own website or literature without thinking much about the copyright situation.
WAB has tons of members, several hundred of whom upload pictures , including several professional photographers and and many more semi pros none of whom have had major issues with the very low potential for image theft that this uploading represents

Anyone wanting the pic can just take a screen grab and Hey presto! They have a lovely 800x600 72dpi pic. At 300dpi that will give a 2.66" wide print - Woooooo!!!
Think of it this way...
Someone steals your image and publishes it as they're own. You see it. You'll make more money by sueing them than you ever would from selling them a print
