| | | Trade in camera equipment - I've got quite a bit of camera equipment, what's the best way of trading it in for a digital movie camera? I have a still digital and cannot see me using the film equipment again. Cheers, Tony |

| | | Re: Trade in camera equipment - Depends what you've got I suppose. I've sold lots of Canon camera equipment on Ebay and have always got good prices. It was all digital stuff though.
The easiest way to get an estimate is to go to Ebay, do a search for your stuff and then click on the 'Completed Listings' checkbox to see what similar items have sold for.

| | | Re: Trade in camera equipment - If it's an 'old' film type system you have, I'm afraid it's next to worthless. Top of the range 35mm bodies are going for ridiculous money. Great for those collectors, that are after a bargain though!!

| | | Re: Trade in camera equipment - Thanks for all your replies. The camera I have is an Asahi Pentax Electro Spotmatic, I was talking to a 'camera nut' a few years ago and he said because the words "Electro Spotmatic" is written in full, the camera is worth more than one with just "E.S." on !
My thoughts are to take it to the London Camera Exchange in Bath, plonk the lot on the counter, tell theman I would like a digital camera and see what he offers. Thanks once more, Cheers, Tony. |

looking on the web - such as pentax forums and here Asahi Pentax Spotmatic Series 35mm SLR Cameras, Classic Collectibles! prices seem to vary between next to nowt and about $100US depending on how many lenses there are.
while looking at ebay they appear to go from about 10 quid up to 60 or so http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=p...otmatic&_rdc=1
but those are the sale values, anywhere that takes it in partex will give you a lot less asthey will want to make a profit when they resell it

Thanks once more, Cheers, Tony. | The trouble is, LCE - and not just them, other dealers are not a lot different - will probably offer a low trade in price. I wanted to trade in an old camera and was quoted about £40 for it, in my local camera shop. I eventually sold it privately for a lot more than that (that particular one goes for £150+ sometimes even £200 in adverts for s/h gear). What gets me is that camera shops will offer a derisory amount for someone's equipment and then sell it for 5x that amount. Yes, they have to make a profit but I think that they sometimes take the mick a wee bit.
Selling privately is a better bet.
