A friend sold me a Canon 40D body yesterday that he no longer uses and will now have a go using that today and try and compare it with the 7D for performance in the field.
From playing around with the 40D last night taking practice shots in the living room i found it easier to operate than the 7D and a but more user friendly in terms of me being a new DSLR user and will now try and learn to get the best out of both cameras. |

Seems the is only one answer, at least initially,... RTFM.
Dave | I bought a 7D at the end of October; it is a fabulous camera and easily the best I have owned or used, easily beating the 40D (which I still have as a second body) in all departments, especially the AF and high ISO noise.
However, the camera is indeed very complex and, even now, I am still consulting the manual.

One thing that I have been gradually learning is not to be afraid of using high ISO if you have too - better to get grain than to get unwanted motion blur or too little depth of field. |
