Sorry to hear about your predicament with your lost files. Frustrating, to say the least. The software I used is called PC Inspector Smart Recovery. My mate downloaded it from the Internet and burnt the disc for me.

I have a similar problem. I have a Digipro 40gb external HDD and card reader, which I use for photo storage. I accidentally formatted this from Fat32 to NTFS in Windows XP but it won't let me format it back to Fat32. |

Try using your PC, use Drive manager to uninstall the drivers for the device (make sure you get the right one) and then reconnect the drive to your machine. Basically force the PC to re-discover the drive again and install drivers.
I had a similar problem some time ago, and it worked for me.
