What I intend to do is make a long walking stick with a blunt wooden spear at the foot. At the business end I was thinking of making a removable "U" shape lens support with 2 inch wide nylon webbing lens support which would run between the arms of the "U".
Does this seem feasible or is a sling support a bad idea?
Malcolm | I have made a number of wooden monopods, but stick to my Benbow nowadays. I made one out of the lower sections of a bamboo fishing rod picked up at the local recycling centre to give me a dual height pole and another with a U-shaped support. There are woodscrew to 1/4" Whitworth
adapters available that screw into a piloted hole in the end of a suitable pole
this would then take a ball and socket head. Attleborough acessories (which are closing down) supply various forked stick tops in buffalo horn stag horn or several types of wood. It is nice to see someone that likes to try things, good luck.

| | | Re: Sling monopod I have looked at the alternatives above and thanks for the suggestions. Strangely enough the pole of this is coming from an old fishing rod - probably about 100 years old - a wood called greenheart.
I am going to go ahead with the project as I don't have any advice which says it won't work. I'll know next week! |
