There are already apps for the Iphone which can control a camera connected to a laptop. The screen would be a bit small to use for live view but if the app works on an Ipad then that will give a good view.
It wouldn't take a lot to develop a cheapish wireless device to plug into the camera and communicate directly with the Ipad making the set up very mobile. |

You can get wireless extenders now for about £50 but they are line of sight and only good for about 10 metres.
I reckon the best bet with currently available technology is a CAT5 extender. This allows you to connect a USB device to your computer using an ordinary CAT5/5e/6 network cable. You can get these extenders for around the same price as the wireless ones but you'll need a network cable too - about another tenner for a 50m one.
