Can't go too far wrong with Sigma either but for me Tamron macro glass is sharper. But at the end of the day we all have our favs.
I would personally leave Canon macro lenses where they are as the extra price tag is not really justified.
The Canon 180mm has a great build and although sharp I would once again say the Tamron 180 is sharper but lacks the build quality.

| | | Re: Macro zoom lenses I am very very happy with my Sigma 105 and I had previously tried the 70-300 (macro) zoom
The only way to really get the latter to be useful for closeups was to use extension tubes.
Go for a good non-zoom lens
OR
buy a Nikon 990 for £50 on Ebay and take closeups with greater depth of field. The advantage is that you can always carry it with you for that special find. I take mine with me everyday on my walks and have managed to capture some special shots.
How about this? 1-Favourites: PingDroplets

Dave | I bought mine from Jessops. £79 the set of three. They pass through all the electrical info, so you retain AF and metering. |
