| | | Re: Brockholes anyone been? Brockholes isn't officially opening to the public until next year. There are still major landscaping works ongoing, along with the construction of the visitor centre & teaching facilities etc.
See: - Brockholes
Last time I was in the area there was a sign advising no public entry. I assume there will be public liability insurance considerations due to the building works.
Being a member of Lancashire Wildlife Trust, and living only a few miles away, I would like to visit the site myself - but have no wish to commit trespass.
I did phone them a few months back to ask if permission to access the site would be granted, but either the person I spoke to never passed on the message, or the site manager couldn't be bothered to phone me back.
Regards,
Mike. |

I'd seen the web site but was wondering what the state of play is to visiting the site (and what bird life was about).
If there's a sign well fair enough I'll leave it until it's officially open |

As I say, it was a few months back that I saw the sign, but I was told at the time that access for an individual may be granted by the site manager.
Unfortunately when I rang, the manager wasn't on site, but I was assured by the person who took the call that they would get her to ring me back that same day.
I'm of the opinion it may have been the insurance liability situation that was the stumbling block, but I didn't feel like pushing things when they failed to ring me back. (Although it would have been considerate of them to do so, even if the answer was going to be no).
Like yourself, I just decided to wait until the place is officially open. It certainly looks like it will be an exceptional site for all aspects of wildlife.
Regards,
Mike. |

Personally I'd wait until it's open and look forward to next Spring.
Lancashire WT sounds as bad as Natural England for answering mail! We eventually got permits for Gaitbarrows and Roudsea from NE but haven't heard back from a request to collect yet
I think perhaps everywhere is a little overstretched due to cutbacks?
Acher
PS - Some of the Birdforum Lancs lads have been taking images there for a while.
