| | | Animals have 'right to privacy' Had to double check the date after reading this story: BBC News - Animals need 'right to privacy' from wildlife films
I guess I'll have to give up photographing mating damselflies this year |

| | | Re: Animals have 'right to privacy' I've just found this news story as well.
The point someone else made on a different forum was that the only reason privacy is of concern to humans is because we are aware of the consequences of our privacy being breached.
That obviously doesn't apply to animals, so where is the issue?
The Dr in question says "What does it say about our assumptions about animals?"
To me, it says far less than the countless list of worse things we've done to animals in the past (and are still doing).
Of course actually disturbing the animals is a different matter, but that is not the issue he raised.

What are the consequences?
I think it is certainly a subject we should think about, even if we do decide it is unimportant.

The consequences are that, as humans, we feel embarassment, shame, regret, guilt, etc etc.
These are all illogical responses that animals have no concept or need of.
To turn it on its head, why is it that we deem privacy so important? What on earth is all that about?

| | | Re: Animals have 'right to privacy' Privacy for animals.
Well the two avocets I was watching and taken pictures of didn't seemed too bothered by me. They were.... errrrr! busy doing what avocets do best in the mating season. eating, fighting and (need a nudge nudge smilie)
Think the Dr might just be after a bit of publicity.

| | | Re: Animals have 'right to privacy' Privacy like morals is a human concept and condition. Wildlife has a right not to be recklessly disturbed or interferred with while going about its life but in no way can species that live outside have privacy - there can be nothing in private - unless hidden in some way Until animals and birds start building houses and fitting doors and curtains then they have no privacy and it can't be invaded .......... |
