| | | Re: lookin for a good lens There is, sadly, no easy or cheap way to sharp photos; mirror lenses are generally considered rubbish. Sorry, to be blunt. They also tend to be fixed
aperture and have manual focussing.
You would do better watching a well known auction site for second-hand lenses.
There are heaps of threads on WAB about which are the best -- there are a heap of photos in the Gallery which attest to the Sigma telephoto range.
There are lots of us who have learnt this the hard way |

| | | Re: lookin for a good lens I`m with Hobjob on this mirror lens leave lots of artifacts like big orbs on pics ,go to the Auction site and look for a good Sigma lens either 170-500mm or one of Sigma`s other lens you would probably pay about the same price if not cheaper,I have the Sigma 170-500mm from this site and have had no complaints a bit heavy at times but don1t notice as I use a tripod/monopod

and for moving targets they are a dead loss due to the manual only focussing

You're absolutely right though.
I wouldnt get a mirror for anything but a sony because nothing else has stabilisation built into the body and despite others saying about IS "I turn it off", well I dont and most shooters I know dont either.
How else can you get 500mm of stabilised reach for £300 which is what I paid for mine?

however my favoured route to 500mm would be to buy a lil bigma on ebay

I tried a bigma and it was good, and pricey! In the very near future I'm going to hire it for the weekend - if they still have it - and give it a good go.

| | | Re: lookin for a good lens Unfortunately there isn't a cheap way to big glass. If you want reach and quality you have to pay for it.
You'll only find you'll upgrade your cheap lens when you aren't happy with it!
My comiserations if you hooked on wildlife photography. You'll be happy but poor!
regards.
