As Mike said earlier, a trip to Maplins will point you in the right direction. Looks like there are two branches in Soton. | Yes Woody , I looked in on Argos and Maplins and the latter do have much more choice of course, so I think a trip to Maplins might be on the cards,.I have got a B/W single camera setup that I use from the stables to indoors when needed..(foaling , but not doing that now) it has a monitor capable of recording, and sound, and I had it on 140metres 'cable', no problems, except you have to have light supply in the dark. but it would do for the Mallard till I get something else, in colour, so there's no immediate rush, just that like all females, I'm impatient.. |

They still have to have a connection to power the camera itself, and are usually supplied with a shortish length of cable with a "plugtop" type power supply onboard that still needs to be plugged into a socket.
So they aren't truly wireless at all.
If I were you, and you are looking for a 40m connection, I would go for ones fed via composite cable (you would probably have to get two 20m cables and connect them together. (not forgetting to seal the plug in connection points with some weatherproof tape or inside a weathrproof box).
You just need to make sure that what you're buying will operate at the end of a 40m length of cable. (I still think that talking directly to a "knowledgeable" sales person would be the best way forward.
Something like the 4 camera complete kit that I mentioned previously would seem to be ideal provided it would still operate after extending the 18m lengths of cable that it comes with up to your 40m range. (I don't know if you've checked the specification for that kit, but it is complete with a 250Gig hard drive, full control unit , 4 cameras, power supplies, 4 x 18m cables, etc.etc.).
On camera lens angle, it depends what you are intending to view, how close it will be to the camera, and how accurate you will be able to determine the subjects position when setting things up. If it were me, I'd go for the ninety degree camera, and see how things go from there. You could always swop a camera for one with a narrower view later on if it was really needed.
Regards,
Mike. | Thankyou Mike, of course I thought the cameras ran off dry cell batteries for the Wireless set-ups. I didn't realise that the 'wire' from my old B/W cctv didn't only send the image from the camera to the monitor, but was supplying the camera with electricity as well, going the other way, no wonder there were so many blinkin wires in it, I didn't know it was powered, good job it wasn't plugged in when I had to solder it to mend it when the dog chewed through it...HeyHo...... Yes I did see that those complete set-ups are very comprehensive in content. I think they are a good price considering what you get..... and yes 90 deg. seems favourite..Posie.
