| | | First ever image...maybe. Hi folks,
I've just spent about four hours trying to work out how to add an image to a post, and I think I've solved it, so here goes. This was a good-looking fox I digiscoped from about 100metres. He was just a dot on the horizon and I was in a brick hide at my local RSPB reserve. Despite this I have a suspicion he was fully aware of my presence. I'm sure they must have radar! The original image was much bigger, but to get it to fit in the post I ended up cropping most of it. What you can see is about 1/16 of the original. |

I'm sure with practice I could get it down to 3 hours! Every time I tried to load it the upload kept saying the file was too big. Apparently in Elements 5.0 you can specify the final file size but I can't find that particular bit yet!

| | | Re: First ever image...maybe. My procedure is to go to image , resize, image size , and alter the dimensions to 600 on the shorter side (check that this gives you 800+ on the longer) and the DPI to 72 then save it selecting a quality/compression setting of 7 or 6. this will give you a file which is under 300kb nd which will upload no problem

I've never used a digital imaging package before buying Elements 5.0 and I find it pretty confusing. I'm sure it will do everything I need. (..But not necessarily in that order!) I'll try your system tomorrow and see how I get on. As for tonight I'm going to bed. My brain hurts!

| | | Re: First ever image...maybe. Can i recommend you try this book Amazon.co.uk: The Photoshop Elements 5 Book for Digital Photographers: Books: Scott Kelby
I have Elements 4 and bought several books including the official Adobe Book. Kelbys book was much better than all the others. In fact I may post a review about it

Sorry if I have mistaken you for someone else, Dan, but I recall someone almost went as far as reformatting his hard disk to manage an upload
Keep at it Edge, we would like to see more.

Jenny | I nearly resorted to photocopying the blooming thing and posting it in, in an envelope!!

I've downloaded the program and will try it later, but at first glance it seems pretty good!

| | | Re: First ever image...maybe. I've tried the resize program and I think it works. I've uploaded a shot of bullfinches that I took this morning. The original shot was cropped to about a fifth of its size to give this image, so apologies for the haziness, but it was misty!

Don't see many bullfinches around here. What were they eating? I can't recognise the berries from the photos.

| | | Re: First ever image...maybe. Hi Jenny,
The bullfinches are stuffing themselves with hawthorn berries. We have quite a bit of hedgerow here with lots of hawthorn. Every bush seems to have a resident robin, who tries hard to protect the bush from the flocks of redwings which have just recently arrived. It's amazing to see the little robin doing his best to evict the redwings!
Jon
P.S. here's a robin I prepared earlier! (also taken today) | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
