| | | Re: Additional lense to complete my kit I must say, I like your optimism - "to complete my kit" - in my experience most SLR owners never stop buying lenses and their kit is never complete ... there is always that 'better' lens they are saving up for
On the subject of bird photos, I don't have much experience there but you will certainly need to use long telephoto lenses because it is very hard to get close to them. But for insects I would encourage you to keep at it with the macro lens and even try to go for wide-angle lenses too and learn the field-craft to get close to your subject. Some of the best photos I have ever taken (IMO) have been with wider-angle macro lenses - you get so much better depth of focus and the extra background / habitat adds to the overall artistic merit. Telephoto lenses will get you a close-up shot of the butterfly or dragonfly but their narrow field of view will cut out a lot of the stuff around it

| | | Re: Additional lense to complete my kit Ukwildlifeo - indeed! Where possible I always include my own photographs in assignments and so far I seem to be getting reasonable grades so I'll definitely keep doing that
(I am intrigued/amused by compromising photo's of tutors too now hehehe)
ChrisR - I'm not sure if I am an optimist or a realist - it's going to be years until I can substantially add to my kit so I think maybe I've given into that fact for now
I also agree about the macro lens - close up images seem to be my personal favourites too - I love the detail they uncover! The need for a better telephoto lens has only become important recently as my garden becomes an almost constant hive of activity and I want to take photos of the visitors | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
