Advice on camera lens

Hey! I'm new to this so please forgive my ignorance. I recently purchased a Canon 1000d and have found this lens online COSINA AF100-400MM F4.5 - 6.7 - CANON EOS 35MM/DSLR FIT on eBay (end time 21-Jan-10 22:51:13 GMT)
Can anyone advise me if this lens will fit my camera? I will only be using it to photograph garden birds and am on an extremely tight budget.

thanks for that I've guessed that already but just want to know if it will actually fit the camera. I won't be trying to win any photopraphy competitions with this lens just want to get a feel for manual focusing and usign the camera.

at that price and wanting MF you might get better photos from a mirror lens.

if you really do want to buy it, be prepared for huge purple fringing, softness, and really unacceptable images until you go down to f/8
