I had exactly the same problem when I upgraded cameras, my Nikon 70-300mm produced worse results on a better camera. | Excellent point Andy, and also the more megapixels you have the less camera shake you can get away with. I noticed this when upgrading from a 6MP D70 to a 12MP D300. No problem with the lens but on the D300 a tiny amount of camera shake will show up when viewed at 100%. I had to improve my long lens technique to get the quality back to where it was on the D70.
