| | | WAB image requirements completeley bewildering About five times now I have thought to myself that I really should upload some of my photos to WAB.
Every single time though, faced with the prospect of hours in front of the computer resizing, renaming, and re-keywording files that were never designed for this site, after about 20 minutes of head scratching, I just give up.
Does anyone else share my frustration?

| | | Re: WAB image requirements completeley bewildering Hi,
thanks for your reply.
If you upload to the image library, I guess (and it is only a guess!) the images do not appear as part of your profile? So, somebody wanting to look at your photos would not be able find them easily?
I can't understand the distinction between " Gallery" and "library", other than the fact that they have different upload requirements. Quote:

The image library is for uploading to when you have something that you want help to ID, or an image you would want to use in a forum thread. There is no limit and they don't have to wait for approval.
Lanacshire Lad started a thread with instructions on how to upload to both Gallery and Image Library and how to link you photos into a forum thread. It's a really useful guide. http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...otos-info.html

The Gallery is WAB's showcase of British wildlife images so we want high quality shots correctly labelled with common and scientific names. Uploads are checked before acceptance to ensure they meet the standards both for quality and naming.
The image library is (within reason) anything goes! If it's an image for ID or a shot that doesn't meet the quality standards for the Gallery but you still want to use it in a forum post then upload to the image library.
Hope that helps a bit.
Dave P.
Edit - you were too quick for me earthdragon!

More often than not, I'm uploading them to use in a thread, so I do put them in forum images. I suspect that there a quite a lot of Gallery quality images in the Image Library though, simply because it's easier to share them in that way. |

| | | Re: WAB image requirements completeley bewildering You can search both in the Gallery and in the image library by username. Those photos I have in the Gallery I first copied to a folder I set up for WAB images, then resized those copies, you don't have to change the name and any tags you might have had included don't transfer with the upload (as far as I know). I have only tried one at a time though You just any the title and description you want to appear on WAB

Does anyone else share my frustration? | i understand your frustration but i dont share it because once you get used to it resize and rename shouldnt take hours - I dont know how many pics you are talking about but given the upload limit (for the Gallery) of ten per day - could easily resize etc that many in 20 minuites.
Also with photoshop (or elements) you can set up a batch process or "droplet" to do loads of files and then just leave it running in the background
my "prepare for web" droplet goes : open file, duplicate, resize to 800x600 (assuming its a landscape format pic - i have a seperate droplet for portrait), resave at quality 7 in location x - the files output from this are ideal for wab and also for use on my own website or whatever.
then the only manual thing you have to do is the wab upload and titling which doesnt take long at all.
